As we begin the 20-21 school year, the Gardner School SafeStart website will serve as a resource and central tool to communicate about the Gardner School’s plans to support the education of our students. Throughout the year, we will continue to be flexible, collaborative, and committed to the health and safety, as well as emotional, social, and academic well being of our students as we adapt to circumstances beyond our control.
All of us - teachers, administrators, Board of Trustees - look forward to welcoming students back to our beautiful 5 acre campus. We are bringing our creativity, dedication, and problem solving skills to the important task of educating our students and supporting all members of our community.
Decisions about the Gardner School of Arts & Sciences 2020-2021 school year are made by our Head of School, Emily Davis, with input from the school's Gardner Returns committee. Our committee is composed of teachers, administrators, and members of our PTO and Board of Trustees. This group is reading over guidelines, talking to health experts, and working to ensure a high level of standards in safety, well being, and academics.
The Gardner Returns committee draws from research, guidelines, and advice from Clark County Public Health; the Washington State Department of Health; the U.S. Center for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC); the Washington Office of the Superintendent of Public Instruction (OSPI); the Department of Child, Youth, and Family (DCYF); the Washington Federation of Independent Schools (WFIS); and the Northwest Association of Independent Schools (NWAIS).
The Gardner SafeStart Plan is created and being updated by the Gardner Returns Committee. This committee is made up of school administrators, members of the Board of Trustees, teachers, and parents. We’ve included a wide range of skills and perspectives, including a medical professional, lawyer, educators, and people who know and love our school.
